Alice Eastman Chambers

Alice brings valuable expertise due to her experience working with Park Districts in Illinois, non-profits in North Carolina and West Virginia, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Department in North Carolina.  Her specialty is environmental education and management, and she has an excellent track record in securing environmental programming grants from various private and corporate foundations.  She holds a LEED AP designation and has experience in helping to design and oversee the construction of a LEED Platinum nature center in Bolingbrook, IL.

A nationally recognized instructor, Alice was asked to be an instructor at the initial Green School, sponsored by the Oglebay National Training Center, the National Recreation and Park Association, and Toro, Inc.  She also served as Chair of the Board of Regents for the Supervisors Management School sponsored by North Carolina State University, the Oglebay National Training Center at Oglebay Resort, and the National Recreation and Park Association.   She has taught classes at West Liberty University, and was asked by the Indiana University Eppley Institute to assist in establishing a certification program for environmental interpretation.

Alice is an excellent grant-writer, having written several successful grants to state agencies and private foundations with a focus on environmental programming and facility development.  A recent success was securing a significant grant from The Schenk Foundation that kick-started the construction of the Samara gift shop at the Schrader Environmental Center for the Oglebay Institute.  Other successful grant proposals include $225,000 from the Chevron Foundation, $200,000 from the Illinois Clean Energy Conservation Foundation, and $750,000 to assist in the construction of the Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Bolingbrook, IL from the Illinois Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Fund.
