Every- EVERY non-profit, organization, agency, corporation, firm- could use a Management Review. It might not need to be a massive, months-long focus (although it might, too), but almost every organization of any size and complexity could use an objective, outside look from a management team that has experience in doing so.
A Management Review, simply stated, is the review and evaluation of management structure, standard operating procedures, and how your agency functions on a day-to-day basis. What systems are in place? What systems should be in place? Are they functioning as originally designed? Has your organization evolved from where it started and have your policies and procedures evolved with it? Are you adhering to your mission and core values?
The Kelly Group will work closely with the organization’s chief executive and establish a process to thoroughly review the management of the organization, division-by-division, looking at daily work activities as well as how strategic goals and objectives are set and accomplished. We can dive as deeply as you wish, and at times it might be prudent to do an overview in the beginning, then work on follow-up based on what is learned.
Although Management Reviews are often done in tandem with an Organizational Assessment, usually as a result of a problem, it behooves the organization to have one done periodically just as you have a personal check-up with your local doctor. It’s much easier to identify, and much easier to rectify, a problem in the early stages than it is once a cancer has set in.
WHAT DOES A MANAGEMENT REVIEW CONTAIN?
The following is not an exhaustive list but should give an idea of the areas that would be reviewed:
- Your Mission and Vision Statements and how they align with what is current reality
- Your customers- who are they, and who should they be?
- Your SOP/Policies and Procedures, and how they align with current day-to-day operations
- Staff training
- Ability to adapt based on outside influences (federal and state legislation, political influence, etc.)
- Succession Plan
WHY SHOULD THE KELLY GROUP BE A CANDIDATE TO PERFORM YOUR REVIEW?
Can’t I do that? Can’t my Executive Committee do that? Can’t my Assistant Director or Management Team or Administrative Assistant do that?
Of course they can… but how objective would it be? How thorough would it be? These people have other jobs. They may or may not be as candid as they should be. They may or may not know what to look for, what to review, and what to identify. The staff may or may not be as forthright with your appointed representative or board members as they would be with us.
A Management Review can pay for itself many times over by identifying efficiencies and areas of overlap and inefficiency. Think about it!
